ScoutIT! support

Presently, I am not able to support this theme and I would advise that some knowledge of WordPress themes is required to get this theme working as you will want.
Please post comments and questions below…

  1. Can you tell me please which part in the style sheet controls the left hand test indent space.

    I want to get body text in all pages and articles to line up more with the first character of the header.

    I’ve been through the style sheet but cannot readily see the section that controls this in all templates.

    I have found how to adjust header font and menu hover colours etc.

    Please can you advise

  2. Hi Steve,

    You could add something like the following to your CSS:

    #page-content p, #page-content h2, page-content h3, #page-content ul {
    margin-left: 10px;

    That should cover most types of content.

    Edit: on second thoughts, margin would be better than padding.

    1. Hi Jack

      But where would I physically place this in the CSS?

      Replace this:-

      #page-content {
      float: left;
      width: 690px;

      Or put your section above this?

  3. Hi, i wondered how I should shorten the excerpt shown in the content flicker thing so that it does not overflow the box. Thanks. The website is

    1. You can limit the number of characters shown by editing the file /wp-content/themes/scoutit/index.php on line 54

      There’s probably a better way, but I would change line 54 to something like this, to shorten the excerpt to 50 characters and then add 3 dots (…):

      < ?php echo substr(get_the_excerpt(), 0, 50); ?>... ">Read this post &raquo

  4. Hi Amy

    1. There is a feature in WordPress called the “excerpt” which is used to populate the text on the featured post. By default, this is the first 150 (I think) characters of the post (which is too long for the homepage), but we can specify a different excerpt.

    To see the excerpt box, go to edit he post in the admin panel. In the top-right of the page is a link called “Screen Options” which lists which boxes are visible in the ‘edit post’ page. You’ll only need to set this setting once as it will remember it for you in the future. Tick “Excerpt” and a box will appear further down the page for you to enter a custom excerpt.

    2. I’m not aware of any problems with NextGen. In fact I used to use nextgen with scoutit myself. If you can give me more info on the problems you’re having, I’ll gladly look into it further. I’ll need to know if you’re getting an error message, a list of other plugins you’re using, and the version of WP you are on.

  5. HI Alex

    There are some theme options you can change on this page: http://{your-domain]/wp-admin/themes.php?page=theme_options

    The Group Name field can be changed there.
